Menu Bar app

Another vote for a pomodoro solution that gets included in the menu bar. It would also be awesome to have a setting to choose if you wanted to keep the app "open" in the dock vs just in the top menu bar. Attached is the screenshot of the timer I'm using now. Having this built into Sunsama would be AWESOME.

Add focus timer to menu bar

Having the option on MacOS to move focus bar to menu bar would be great.

I've started working on this and am planning an internal release tomorrow. I should have something out for customers at least as a beta feature by next week.
If you've got any specific needs for this feature now is a great time to speak up!

Ashutosh Priyadarshy - What a great surprise to see this morning! 🙏
The screenshot looks promising and I'll be glad to have it. In an ideal world I would just use this menu bar timer and would rarely ever need the current one again.
Some functionality that comes to mind in this respect would be:
Important
- The ability to start and stop the timer using the global keyboard shortcut we've set or customized in our settings.
- The ability for the time sound to have the timer play one of the four sounds when the timer reaches a certain point. I bring this up because the current documentation for the timer notes that, "timer sounds only play when the focus bar is showing." With the addition of the menu bar, the sound should still play even when the focus bar is not showing.
- The ability to toggle between timer mode and pomodoro mode would be useful to have in the menu dropdown.
Nice to Haves
- Related to the time sound mentioned above, the ability for the menu bar to indicate when actual time exceeds planned time. e.g. The text could turn red or the background of the menu bar item could turn red with white text or some other visual indicator. The sound is great but sometimes I just don't hear it so some sort of visual indicator that could help snap me out of what I'm doing would be helpful.
- The ability to show the menu options with a keyboard shortcut.

Ashutosh Priyadarshy Skyler brings up good points. And I like where you are headed with this as well. If you've not seen it, Akiflow's menu bar does some things particularly well, but they do lack a focus timer.

Ashutosh Priyadarshy at the moment i have the feature enabled in the sunsama application, but it is not showing for me. Is the feature not enabled yet, or am i doing something wrong here?
The feature looks amazing, and i would love to try it!
Ashutosh Priyadarshy
Martijn Verwoert That's an oopsie by me shipping the setting for it without the feature. Will fix today!
Martijn Verwoert
Ashutosh Priyadarshy that is great news! any idea when this will be live then? can't wait to try it out
and do i need to reinstall the app, or is that not needed in this case?
Thank you for actively developing this app! it helps me a lot

Martijn Verwoert My hope is later today! Worst case tomorrow.

Pomodoro Timer in macOS Menu Bar
I’d love to request an enhancement to the Pomodoro timer experience in Sunsama.
Specifically, it would be incredibly useful to have the Pomodoro timer displayed in the macOS menu bar (system tray), rather than only as a floating, always-on-top window. Having the timer persistently visible in the menu bar would make it much easier to stay aware of time remaining without disrupting focus or screen real estate.
There’s an app called Be Focused Pro (https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/be-focused-pro-pomodoro-timer/id961632517) that implements this very well: the timer lives in the menu bar, updates in real time, and is always visible regardless of which app or workspace I’m in—without requiring a floating window. This makes it feel lightweight, non-intrusive, and perfectly integrated into the Mac workflow.
If Sunsama’s Pomodoro timer could optionally live in the menu bar (with basic controls on click, and perhaps syncing with the active focus session), it would significantly improve usability for those of us who rely on timeboxing throughout the day.
Even as an optional setting (menu bar timer vs. floating window), this would be a phenomenal addition.
Thanks for considering—and really appreciate the thoughtful product design overall.

oof, yes, pleeeease, focus timer window is a nuisance but would be so useful in the Mac menu bar 🙏
Skyler Reeves
Ashley Creighton - Agreed. I despise the focus timer being its own element instead of a menu bar item.
They'd need to develop a native layer to gain access to the menu bar.

I just asked AI if Sunsama had this feature and came to this request. +1 for this request, I love literally everything about Sunsame, except for the Focus Timer. If it lived in the menu bar it would be the perfect productivity app.

Yeah would prefer Focus Timer in the MacOS Menu Bar than this floating window that obstructs the view
Andrea Adb
Martin Picard the focus timer also trips up the app switcher (cmd+tab): when i am on a different app and i use cmd+tab to switch to sunsama, it brings me to my desktop on the floating focus timer, not on sunsama's main window (which i am keeping full-screen) essentiall impossible to use

Just tried Sunsama today and totally loving it. Been using Ticktick for years already, so currently on the market as I believe Ticktick's timeblock feature, especially for estimates, is lacking. and using Sunsama timeblocking has been quite smooth, however, I realize this is the main feature that I love from ticktick..
Tickticks timer UX implementation is perfect. Hoping to have this feature, please.
The floating bar while good on full screen mode on mac is not ideal as an overall implementation as the timer needs to be on a certain location all the time to develop a habit on where to look at. The floating focus bar will have to be dragged on different location which is not ideal for routine, ritual and habit formation. On a 4k screen, there are several instances wherein I have to find the timer to see how much time I've logged already.
Sunsama price is about 6-7x the price of Ticktick, still willing to switch but I feel, but the timer implementation is only the reason why I'm on the fence on this one.

+1 This would definitely help us stay in flow. Menu bar with calendar event details & the remaining time for the current task
