I think of the main window as "mission control" for my day and keep the timer up to track the current task. The Today view is useful to me so that i can quickly add/change tasks or subtasks as the day goes by.

Many times per day I end up starting the timer for a task and then having to do a few clicks to get the main window back to Today view.
